Meet Maria

Maria is an experienced singer, songwriter, and educator, with a deep love for bringing people together through words and music.

She spent many years managing adult education programmes, and it was through this work that her popular Come and Sing group first grew - born from a simple wish to make singing feel welcoming, accessible, and joyful for everyone, with no experience needed. She has been performing and writing songs for much of her life, sharing her music in person and more recently at zoom gatherings across the UK and beyond.  As an experienced Gaelic singer, Maria has also led both in‑person and online workshops in Irish and Scots Gaelic song, keeping those traditions alive and open to all.

In recent years Maria has turned her hand to poetry, a natural new path for someone who has always loved shaping words and rhythm. Her writing draws on the same honesty, warmth, and feeling for story that defines her songs - rooted in family, heritage, and the lives of those who came before.  You can explore her poetry and books here.

Whether hosting the long‑running Loch Down Folk Club on Zoom, leading in‑person singing days, or putting pen to paper, her focus is always the same: creating spaces where people feel at home, and where every voice - sung or spoken - truly matters.
